NW Front at Terminal
Award winner: Honorable mention
Juror's notes: Just look at the shapes in this painting! First, the negative shapes: the sky, under the bridge and between the bridge supports, the diagonal shapes in the foreground - there are gems of negative shapes everywhere! And they’re all different sizes. The painting is well balanced with light and dark values repeated throughout the painting. I love the diagonal dominance in this painting! It brings an energy that’s palpable! The strongest diagonal shape of the bridge brings us right to the focal area, which is placed in the sweetest spot possible – a different distance to all four edges of the painting. I love shapes and this painting does not disappoint! Great job!
