Juror's Note: There is a mystery in this photograph that is so enjoyable. The scale of the print and darkness of the tones really reinforce the need to view this photograph in person. It is an anti-Instagram photo, for all the right reasons. The hidden figure by the tree, the animal in the field, and the hazy light leaking through the trees all create a dreamlike atmosphere. It has the flavor of early Pictorialism without the overwrought nostalgia or biblical allegory. It is a photo that I continue to return to, ponder on, and enjoy.
