Cantharellus formosus

Watercolor

13 x 14 inches framed

Common name: Pacific gardenchanterelle

Artist's statement: In Autumn, there is nothing more fun than hunting chanterelles. Even if I never find any! So much brighter than black trumpets or truffles, less ephemeral than boletes, they shine brightly on the forest floor.

On Vashon Island, where I live, there are quite a variety of sizes and colors from buff to deep gold to almost brown. If I am very lucky and there are rains in August, sometimes I can find Cantharellus subalbidus the beautiful, elusive White Chanterelle.
