Juror notes: While some of the other award winners were chosen because of their bold, spontaneous statement regarding the subject, I chose this piece as the top winner because of how well it captures a distinct visual statement with very little rendered information. And it does it exceptionally well! There’s no extraneous information rendered in this piece; each element has a specific role. With this masterfully edited approach, the artist enables the viewer to immediately sense the quiet mood of this wide-open view and the glimmer of soft sunlight peeking through to illuminate the cloud mass precisely at that moment in time.
